He is waiting in the sub-basement with the document already on the table and a bottle of akvavit he does not offer to share.

You sit across from him in the one other chair.

"I have been waiting for someone to come," he says. "Not you specifically. Anyone. I am very tired."

He slides the sixteen pages across. "The cache is real. The coordinates are on page eleven. I helped hide it in 1973 and I have been hiding it ever since." He looks at his hands. "Holger Dahl wanted to tell the truth. I let them frighten him first. I should not have done that."

"Who is 'them'?"

"People who profit from things staying hidden. In every government, in every intelligence service, in every bank that handles the money." He looks up. "Not a conspiracy. Just interests. Interests do not need to conspire. They simply act."

You take the document.

In the morning, you send it to three journalists simultaneously: one Danish, one British, one American. You include your translation, your analysis, and the coordinates.

The story runs four days later. It does not end careers. It does not send anyone to prison. But it is out, permanently and irrevocably, in the record of the world.

Lindqvist is questioned and released. He retires to his summer house.

You are asked to leave Denmark within thirty days.

You do not mind.
